in general, 'classic' 70s-80s metal seems like a safe place to go. iron maiden, metallica and black sabbath are safe bets. head-bangy shit without too much screaming. misfits sneak in with some of their singles. ac/dc is definitely up there as well.
probably does not like modern country or johnny cash. outlaw country is probably fine. waylon jennings & david allen coe are fine.
i imagine he grew up with appalachian folk and has some fondness for it but wouldn't seek it out. doc watson is probably his favorite if he had to pick one, but i dont think he thinks about the genre much. chet atkins & the stanley brothers are allowed.
he doesn't recreationally listen to jefferson airplane but thinks grace slick's voice is very sexy when she really goes for it. this will never come up naturally.
